Pax Christi USA endorses the Truth Commission on Conscience and War

The Truth Commission on Conscience in War is scheduled for March 21-22, 2010 in New York City at the Riverside Church. This important interfaith event is designed to raise up voices to describe the difficult moral, ethical, and legal issues surrounding questions of conscience for military service members. The event will have two parts. First, on March 21st, a public hearing will include testimony from veterans and expert witnesses on issues of conscientious objection and selective conscientious objection. The next day, Commissioners—representing 44 groups to date, including Pax Christi USA—will meet privately to receive testimony and start discerning how interfaith conversations all over the U.S. can happen on just war, international law, and freedom of conscience in the months following the event. Later this year, a Commission report will be published.

Pax Christi USA has endorsed this event and Dr. Joseph Fahey, Professor of Religious Studies at Manhattan College and Co-founder and former General Secretary and Chairperson of Pax Christi USA, will serve as a commissioner.
