CRS Urges Your Representatives to Support U.S. Efforts to Achieve Israeli-Palestinian Peace

A peace conference on the Middle East is scheduled to take place in Annapolis, Maryland starting this coming Tuesday. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice will host the meeting, and both Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert are expected to attend.

In anticipation of this historic meeting, Reps. Gary Ackerman (D-NY) and Charles Boustany (R-LA) initiated a letter that went to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, commending her efforts to convene an international meeting in Annapolis, Maryland this fall. The Ackerman-Boustany letter supports robust U.S. diplomacy before and after the Annapolis meeting and suggests further measures to ensure success. These include a restructuring of U.S. assistance to the Palestinians to improve daily governance and living conditions and create a climate conducive to peacemaking.

Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) and CRS welcome the Ackerman-Boustany letter to Secretary, and urge all House Members to sign it. This will send a strong message of bi-partisan Congressional support for U.S. efforts to achieve Israeli-Palestinian peace.
