“FOCUS IN! cinema for a conscious community.” This Busboys and Poets in-house series offers weekly film screenings from both local and international filmmakers focusing on themes of social justice, peace, and community value.

This week we are screening Refusing to be Enemies documenting Zeitouna (“olive tree” in Arabic), a dialogue group in Ann Arbor, Michigan. These 12 women of both Arab and Jewish descent, native and immigrant born, gather frequently to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and use the dialogue process as a means of personal transformation leading to socio-political transformation.

Director Laurie White will be present to speak on her dream of creating a film to document Zeitouna’s learning as a model for other communities. For more information visit www.zeitounamovie.org (Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Screening promptly at 10:00 p.m. Admission: $3.00. Limited seating available. Food and beverage service throughout event).
