This week, the House will consider the Expanding American Homeownership Act of 2007 (H.R. 1852). One provision of this bill will provide some surplus Federal Housing Authority (FHA) revenues to support the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund. This fund will secure funding for construction and renewal of housing for “extremely low-income” families and individuals (those earning under 30% of the state or area median income level).

Also ask your representative to vote against the following amendments:

• oppose the amendment by Rep. Biggert (R-IL) and Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) which would strike the provision transferring the FHA savings into a Trust Fund.
• oppose the amendment by Rep Biggert that would re-write the bill without the funding of the trust fund.
• oppose an amendment by Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) that would require verification of legal residency in order to receive money from the Trust Fund.
