FCNL Announces A Victory: Senate Bans Cluster Bomb Exports
The Senate voted on September 6th, to effectively ban the export or transfer of U.S. cluster bombs for the next year. The U.S. has an arsenal of more than 5 million cluster weapons, each of which disperses dozens of little “bomblets” intended to kill all living creatures within a specific area that is often as large as several football fields. The Senate restrictions on cluster bomb exports are a huge step forward for all of our efforts to stop these weapons from killing civilians. But more work needs to be done before this ban becomes law.
