News from the Christian Peace Witness for Iraq
On September 16th, with your participation, Christian Peace Witness for Iraq (CPWI) will launch a national round-the-clock vigil for peace in our communities and our world and for the end of the occupation of Iraq. On that day, we hope to have many congregations/faith communities witnessing for 24-hours, inviting local media coverage and following with visits to local congressional offices. Following September 16, we anticipate that other congregations will continue the vigil (increasing to many communities witnessing simultaneously).
- You may now begin planning which day, September 16 — October 15, you will have a local vigil-personally, as a congregation, or with others in your community.
- Think about:
- Might you plan to have this witness monthly for the rest of the year?
- Can it be a full 24 hours?
- Will it be publicly advertised?
- Where will you hold it?
- What media will you invite?
- Will you take out an ad in the local newspaper to publicize it? http://peace.mennolink.org/ads.html
- After your vigil, can you plan to visit local congressional offices?
- When the NEW! CPWI website is up, you’ll be able to register your vigil so others can join you and so the world knows Christians are taking part in a 24-hour/day vigil across the United States for peace in Iraq. We’ll also provide resources to help with your planning.
